Our Bed Bug Extermination Process

Our preferred method of bed bug removal and treatment is with an Actisol® Fog Machine, coupled with other residual pesticide applications, follow-up treatments, and monitoring. The fogging unit mixes a low volume of insecticide with a high volume of air and atomizes the mixture in a special nozzle. The result is a continuous high-volume air stream of ideally-sized insecticide particles that penetrate deep within bed bug hiding places, cracks, crevices, and voids.

While our competitors may suggest other treatments, we’ve found that the cost of freezing bed bugs with cryonite or using heat treatments is extremely high, and, in our experience, the results are not 100%.

Prior to treating the infested area, your bed bug exterminator will provide you with a personalized preparation plan. In general, all people and pets are advised to leave the treatment area for a period of 24 hours. You’ll also receive instructions regarding exposed food and food preparation surfaces and utensils, and you may be asked to turn off ventilation systems, pilot lights or sources of open flame, and appliances that create high heat. Your exterminator may also recommend that you cover or remove computers and other electrical equipment.

Since bed bugs can live up to a year without feeding, we recommend a bed bug control program with monthly follow-up applications. We may also use bed bug detectors, monitors, and traps, and advise you to purchase and install mattress and box spring encasements.

About Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are nocturnal insects that feed on blood, preferably from an inactive human host, which is why they are commonly found in mattresses, box springs, headboards, and bed frames. However, bed bugs can also infest sofas, recliners, movie theater seats, even taxi cabs, and they will also feed on other animals, such as pets or bats.

Bed Bug Life Cycle

Female bed bugs lay 1-5 eggs daily and can produce 200-500 in a lifetime. The small whitish eggs are deposited with a glue-like material in cracks and crevices, and take approximately one week to hatch. After birth, the bedbug will move through five instars, or stages, ending with adulthood. While they are moving through the five stages they are referred to as a nymph.

In order to move from stage to stage, a bed bug needs to feed on blood. They can feed several times during each stage, and as much as once per day. As the bed bug moves from each stage, or instar, they will molt as they grow. Three generations of bed bugs could be born in a year, and the lifespan of an adult is typically 10 to 11 months, although bed bugs can live for a year without feeding.

Signs of Bed Bugs

The first sign of an infestation is usually the bed bug bite, which typically appears in a row or straight line, or as a rash across a localized area. The bites are usually raised, red welts, accompanied by burning and itching. Other signs include blood stains on your sheets and pajamas, the exoskeletons of bed bugs shed during molting, and their fecal matter, which looks like black specks on the lip of your mattress.

When to Call a Bed Bug Exterminator

Bed bugs are extremely difficult to control, and are resistant to most over-the-counter pesticides. We strongly advise against do-it-yourself pest control for a bed bug infestation. If you suspect you have a bed bug problem, please contact us immediately, so that we can inspect your home or business, and advise you on the best treatment plan for your property.

What our customers are saying

We have used Nature’s Way for the past 5 years and have been pleased with their reliable and excellent service. They have removed, disinfected and reinsulated our attic and more recently manage our routine pesticide control. Initially we worked with Jason but as the business has grown we have worked with Steve, our serviceman and he has always been punctual, respectful and willing to address any issues that arise between visits. We look forward to continuing their service and would recommend Nature’s Way without hesitation!
