Are Your Heating Bills Going Through the Roof?

25% Heat Loss Through Uninsulated Roof

This winter is shaping up to be one of the coldest in years, and heating units in homes are running furiously to fend off the deep freeze. According to National Grid, the weather has been 13% colder than average across Upstate NY, prompting many homeowners to seek new ways to conserve energy and stay warm. While you can certainly lower the thermostat, change the filter on your heating system and use weather stripping around windows and doors, if you have an unfinished attic, your home heating bills could – literally – be going through the roof. In an uninsulated home, as much as 25% of the heat can escape through the attic.

Save 20-40% on Your Heating Bill

Calling your local pest control company may not be at the top of your list during a deep freeze, but pest control attic insulation is actually one of the best solutions for reducing energy costs. If your home is under insulated, you could save 20, 30, almost 40% on your heating bills. In fact, the cost of the insulation job usually pays for itself in under 2-3 years. It also helps lower the cost of furnace repairs, because it won’t have to work as hard to heat your home.

Environmentally Friendly, Thermally Superior Attic Insulation

Pest Control Attic Insulation is the result of a revolutionary merger of two well-respected technologies—natural cellulose insulation and natural borate pesticides. It is a fire-retardant, environmentally-friendly, thermally superior insulation with sound-dampening and pest-controlling properties. Safe for use around humans and pets, it is deadly to termites, ants and other pests.

How to Determine if Your Home is Under Insulated

The Department of Energy uses R-Value to measure resistance to heat transfer, and recommends an R-49 for Glens Falls, Saratoga, Albany and all parts of Northeastern NY. To find out if your home is under insulated, simply measure the overall thickness of the fiberglass insulation in your attic and multiply it by 3. For example, if you have 10 inches of insulation, 10 x 3 = 30. Your R-Value is R-30. Anything less than 12 inches is under insulated for our region.
